Bonding is a cosmetic option that’s suitable for many patients coming into our office. At Omni Dental Care, we offer many different cosmetic options to enhance the front of your smile. Bonding specifically uses composite resin to fill in areas that have chipped, cracked or that are spaced unevenly. The procedure is very noninvasive, with most patients being able to have it done without anesthetic.
Why would someone need Bonding?
There are actually several reasons for a patient needing bonding work. The first and most common is because a tooth has chipped. Rather than leave the tooth the way that it is, we can fill in this area with resin material. Another reason a patient would require special bonding work is because they have gaps and spaces between their teeth.
Who is the right candidate for Bonding?
Dr. Oleg will thoroughly evaluate and examine your teeth to determine if you might benefit from bonding. Bonding is very simple and can be beneficial for patients of all ages. It is important to come in for a consultation prior to assuming that it’s right for you. Your front teeth should be otherwise healthy enough to receive the bonding material once it has been placed by the doctor.
What happens during the Bonding procedure?
The procedure is very quick and simple. It first requires that we prep the tooth to receive the material. This is done by using a bonding gel that is applied directly to the tooth. The next step is for the doctor to place the resin and then smooth it out so that it looks like another part of the tooth. This material is then cured in place to harden it and prevent it from moving. Once this is done, you can expect the bonded area to be intact for up to 10 years. After this time, the material may need to be replaced.
