What is a Root Canal?
A root canal is a dental procedure that can be performed by Dr. Borschch that involves removing infected pulp from a tooth. The procedure is performed to prevent the infection from spreading throughout your gums and the jawbone. This is often considered a last option before tooth extraction or a dental implant.
Why do you need a Root Canal?
The most common reason for needing a root canal is due to an infection that causes severe pain that can’t be treated with a filling. Sensitivity to heat or cold is often a sign that you might need a root canal as well. Your gums might swell because of the infection that is present in your tooth. Over time, the tooth might crack or break off.
What makes you a good candidate for a Root Canal?
An underlying condition is often needed in order for you to be a good candidate for a root canal. Dr. Oleg can examine the tooth that is causing the issue to determine the severity and the best way to complete the root canal. If you want to try to save the tooth, then a root canal is usually the best option.
What happens during the procedure for a Root Canal?
After arriving at Omni Dental Care, you’ll be given medications to numb the area around your tooth. The dentist can usually give you medications to help you relax as well. Once the infected pulp is removed, the tooth is cleaned. The canals are then filled before sealant is placed on top of the tooth.
