What are Sealants?
Sealants are coatings that are applied only to the back teeth. They are designed to protect teeth from eventual decay. At Omni Dental Care, we offer this quality care in a way that is comfortable and easy for our clients. Our goal is to improve your experience in the office and for you to prevent the need for more invasive procedures.

Why are Sealants needed?
The main reason someone would need sealants is because their back teeth are vulnerable to decay. This might be due to the fact that the back teeth have deep fissures and grooves. For others, it’s because they may not be taking very good care of their smile. This is why we recommend sealants to both children and adults alike who would benefit from this preventative measure.

Who is a candidate for Sealants?
The best candidate for sealants is someone who is looking to further protect their teeth. This can be done by coming in and having these liquid sealants applied as soon as possible. It is important that you consider coming in for treatment if you tend to be more susceptible to tooth decay and cavities. The majority of dental sealants that are applied can last for upwards of three years.

What happens during the Sealant procedure?
The sealant procedure always starts by cleaning and drying the back teeth. This allows for the sealant varnish to stick to the tooth better and without any bacteria being stuck underneath. We then brush a clear varnish over just the chewing surfaces. This varnish is then cured with a special light that we use right in the dental office. The light works to harden the varnish so that it does not move or wash away. You should still brush and floss normally, since the sealants are really only protecting the chewing surfaces of the back teeth and they will still need to be cleaned properly.
